Season 26, Episode 17 of the series The Only Way is Essex - Dan Edgar's bachelor pad is closing its doors and being relaunched, so Dan invites the lads over to. The Only Way is Essex is full of young, rich beautiful people and big characters. Set within in the golden triangle of Essex, England's fake tan capital, their antics are under the multi-media microscope, as the real-life repercussions of their actions are played out in real time. As one relationship teeters in the balance, another one blossoms as perpetual bachelor, Dan, wants to give things a go with new hottie, Clelia. Meanwhile romance is in the Essex air as Arg enlists the help of his friends to ask Gemma to be his girlfriend. But given Arg's unreliability in the past, will Gemma's mum, Joan, give. After the launch of the new series, it will be immediately followed by another one-off special 'TOWIE: All Back to Essex' hosted by Mark Wright.[3] It is the third series to feature on ITV's new channel ITVBe. As well as confirming the new launch date, it was confirmed that ITV had renewed their contract keeping the show for a further six series, taking it to Series 21.[4] Ahead of the series it was announced that cast member Ricky Rayment had taken a short break from the show but would be back,[5] however he did not return. It was also confirmed that Mario Falcone had been suspended from the show for the second time, this time after promoting slimming pills on social media.[6] He returned during the fourth episode. This was the final series to feature long-running cast member Gemma Collins until her brief return for the Essexmas special,[7] and first to include new cast member Pete Wicks.

The twenty-sixth series of the British reality television programme The Only Way Is Essex began airing on 13 September 2020.[1] This series was due to air earlier in the year, but in March 2020 it was announced that filming had been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom.[2] Whilst off air, it was announced that the series would return later in the year and would go back to airing two episodes per week, and that filming would take place with social distancing to protect cast and crew.[1] Ahead of the series, it was announced that cast members Chloe Ross and Jayden Beales had been axed from the show.[3] It was also confirmed that original cast member Amy Childs would be returning.[4] Nicole Bass, Harry Derbidge and Fran Parman also returned.[5]
During the series, the show celebrated its tenth anniversary, kicking off on 6 September 2020 with a special episode entitled 'TOWIE Turns 10: All Back to Essex'.[6] The ninth episode, airing on 11 October 2020, was extended and featured a number of flashbacks as well as one-off appearances from former cast members including Danni Armstrong, Elliott Wright, Frankie Essex and Mario Falcone. As well as this, a spin-off series entitled The Towie Years aired for ten episodes across five weeks beginning on 10 October 2020. The series focused on the most memorable moments from each year.[7]
